Okay I have to start out by stating that this film is ABSOLUTELY not for everyone. Some people will find the plot dull and unrealistic simply cause they do not believe stuff like this really does happen. This film would likely be more appreciated by a stronger audience with full understanding of film, it's history and especially the darkest annals of the film industry which is the underground. This is written to make anyone feel like less of a film watcher, or in anyways meant to glorify myself as the ultimate film buff, there are likely plenty of people out there that can chew my ass n horror any day that probably hate this film and grasp it in every way, as I said it's not for everyone for more than one reason. Be it sensitivity, depravity of the film or them not agreeing with the context at all. I feel Films should not be judged by one scene and should be judge in full, if however someone can't handle certain things ten they do have the option to look away and not watch ever again.

A Serbian Film has got a lot of rave from those into international horror and the cult underground and has become something of a rather modern day cult phenomena. The film, first mentioned to me by Director Terrence Williams, was said to "be loved by a sick bastard like you" by him. Of course he knowing I, was undoubtedly correct. It's not all the scenes of sex, depravity and the violence and shocks received that just worked me into loving the film, The film has a really good plot that I feel many may not care for.

The film is set of course in Serbia depicting the life of a retired porn star named Milosh (Srdjan Todorvic), who is doing the whole family man thing. It is known that every once in a while he'll do a film to make ends meat but prefers to stay out cause they money sucks. Milosh gets a call from an old co-worker asking him to meet with her, where she tells him someone is interested in giving him a Brando godfather offer he can't refuse. He decides to meet this mysterious director whom continues on to tell him "this is the new way" and stays esoteric about what it is they'll be filming. Unknowingly and unsure Milosh signs up cause it's a grand offer and gets back into action which slowly but sure becomes a descent into a hellish world of pornography.

I'd rather gave that summary of the film to save the possible shock value for those whom haven't seen it, and for those who won't see it thinking "well just tell me' TOO FUCKING BAD. This film is definitely one in a million and I can protest again saying it's not for everyone. Many will likely shun it just for the benefit of doing so cause they're so "hardcore". I have seen many films that have scarred people for life that one uppers claim were "weak". Filmmaking is about breaking thresholds and I feel this film has definitely gone to a level I haven't seen and if i have at least not as graphically depicted as in this film.

The film was very tastefully directed, it was very cinematic and still made you feel dirty for watching it. I can say if a new Grindhouse theater opened this would be the standard to set the new march. It's cinematography was beautiful, well acted and sleazy and sick. Trust me when I say sick, I mean it in the sense that many have turned away or stopped watching and may still be scarred. Te story was strong, effective and believable especially coming from Serbia. Not trying to say they're all fucked in the head out there but you get me.

Overall, I really love this film, it even caused a few reactions of shock in me which is rare to come by. It has loads of soft core sex, beatings, punishment, rape, and murder. And it's dark premise will suck you in, definitely putting this film on my top of 2010.

5/5
