I Spit On Your Grave (2010)

Writers: Meir Zarchi (1978 screenplays), Stuart Morse

Director: Steven R. Monroe

Well it's that time again where I go over the usual blah blah about how I don't go for remakes and such. But if you read my first review of 2011 (Night of The Demons) then you already know and understand my feelings on the matter. After seeing the trailer of this film i felt it grasp my attention and tried to make the premiere with one of my chaps, but ultimately failed due to the fact that someone or someones whom wallow in a lifeless existence and want to inflict misery upon all purposely stalled so I wouldn't make it to the theater in time. (But that's a whole other story about people that do not matter thus making it unimportant as are their crappy existence....SERIOUSLY KILL YOURSELVES.)

I Spit On Your Grave, for many that know the original either love it or hate it. I'm starting to think hating cult classics is a new trend by current horror fans but that's a whole different article all together. The plot is simple as it is a remake to one of the most notorious rape/revenge films of the seventies.A beautiful writer (Sarah Butler-remake-) takes a breather from her city life to the country side to write her newest novel, upon doing so she meets 3 psycho's and a half tard who torture and rape her and she exacts her revenge on all. The remake however has one extra added friend to the party. I was fairly surprised to see the film actually opened like the original, the same side shot and film title. That put a smile on my face.

They kept certain things from the original, such as dialog and of course traits. Though the film is more cinematic and was definitely big screen material. Unfortunately the sacks in the MPAA don't have the balls to serve the thirsty their due instead we get shitty remakes like "The Last House On The Left" that fool people into thinking it's raw and gritty when it's just so faux and shitty. "I Spit On Your Grave" also has the natural feel like the original. Everything flows well and at points you tend to feel like you're watching something real. Although, the original however, feels much more realistic. Yet still this one was fairly decent.

I feel the fact that the original had no score at all, it made the film feel more gritty and the original was definitely more on the sleazy side. Especially the bad guys they just looked like a couple of horny toads. Here of course it being modern days, they looked more clean but you can tell they were up to no good (and the main dude reminded me of Phil from Pantera for some reason). Matthew (Chad Lindberg) was nice played. I really got a feel for his innocence, I did for the character as well in the original. But here he had a bigger sense of being shy and scared and nervous.

Her rape's were changed a bit and similar to the original, of course with humiliation and a gun blow job. These guys were just dicks to her and filmed the whole thing to, which is a cool addition since idiots that do fucked up shit these days tend to do the same and put it on youtube, wondering how and why they got caught. The scenes were pretty graphic (for the norm) and well filmed and you would feel for her, though Camille Keaton's performance is far from rivaled.

Her revenge however, is far more violent than the original and more sadistic. There's gore for you bloodhounds and just to spoil a bit a shotgun rape scene. Now do not misconstrue this for being ultra gore soaked and the sickest movie on the planet. It was originally made for theater and does have that tame big screen tone, but I feel it does deliver a tasty treat to fans of the original and even the noobs that can handle it. It's not too extreme to me cause I'm desensitize and have seen much worse.

Overall, I thought the film was good. Again it's a simplistic idea as was the original and people sometimes can't swallow simplicity cause they think they're fucking brilliant guru's or something. But the film satisfied me and gave me a few smiles and such. It doesn't really give me the dirty feeling I got from the original cause it's a far more fabricated film, but not as fabricated as most films are these days when made for the big screen. It was nicely written, true to the original and nicely executed by both cast and crew. The film feels as right for now as the original feels right as a film from the 70's, sure I wasn't alive back then but you get me, the feel.

4/5
