Cast: Gel Ando, Hiroshi Yazaki, Tallid Yoshida
Writer: Keiji Inafune, Makoto Ikehara
Director: Keiji Inafune
Based on Capcom's Hit video game and also produced by Capcom comes a feature length film which was downloadable in parts, but is now making it's way to DVD. Zombrex: Dead Rising Sun, Directed by game creator Keiji Inafune came out sometime last year and I think I recall a friend telling me about it and I think he kind of over hyped it as well. It sure as hell is no Resident Evil In fact I think it's a lot better and in ways sticks to the game (You can learn something Anderson) However, does the film deliver or does it fail and fall into the annals of terrible video game to film history??
I was curious as to checking this out and at first wasn't sure if it were based on the game, of course as soon as the film began the first thing you see is Capcom pop up and then I was no longer confused. No film takes place out in Japan where apparently the zombie virus has spread and the cure is called zombrex. we follow two brothers who leave their home to find a safe house cause the news states safe houses have more security. After be denied by several safe houses the boys find themselves int an abandoned warehouse they think is empty. Turns out the warehouse is occupied by three psychopaths and a cheesy slut and they aren't so welcoming to their new guests.
The younger handicap brother grows balls of steel and
mouths off getting them into a bit of trouble, the psycho's end up taking the kids money and telling them to get the fuck out, in which the older brother decides to kick ass, get his ass and shot, while hot wheels leads the way to a nice hiding spot. He later comes out of hiding to find his dead brother and cries, get's caught and beaten up and save by a car that crashes through the wall. Which kills the slut and the fat psycho wearing a Servo Bot shirt. Oh did I mention the film is played as a myriad of flashbacks and when not in flash back mode is primarily seen throw the eyes of the younger brother? Yea it is, Innovative I guess but does that make the film good?
So George (Younger Brother) Now meets Mary and she Ben-hurries him into safety and her flashbacks show us she's prone to being bitten and remaining positive of finding some zombrex. Georgie boy cries and complains about being bound to his chair and she tells him all the confidence building babble, runs out and continues to get bitten by a few more zombies and his forced to chooses between death or sucking the cock of the head psycho. Giving Head to the head...teehee. George pops up looking like a black metal wheel chair shred machine of death, Saves Mary and they find Zombrex, credits roll, Zombrex commercial pops up and another few moments with the two the end.
The film, had it's bit of humor, lacked Gore, lacked a good plot and failed to be well executed. Anyone with half a mind watching the film would begin to wonder if the director ever proof read the script i the first place. Still I'd watch this again over Resident Evil, seeing as how this had many references to the video games and that's one thing the fans can be pleased with. The story and the flashbacks tend to become annoying, it's cool that they give us insight on the characters but there is so much that could've been thrown in, like, the brothers whom are walking to find safety getting it on with several zombies trying to eat them. instead we're left with our imagination and a few zombies here and there rather than the thousands that should be. they could've even used cgi it worked for that shitty "I Am Legend" movie, I'm just Saying.
Overall, I wouldn't bother recommending it, it's just a waste of time, the dubbing I'm positive is translated incorrectly, as they cool a hunting rifle a shotgun and say things here and there that make no sense. Although it's meant to have the humor in it it's not that funny and the zombie's look kinda crappy too. You only see skin torn in maybe two scenes and even blood is minimal. To be honest seeing that this was from Japan I kind of expected some blood and beef even if it was cheap and cheesy. Looks like the creator can't make a good film out of his own game, then again the game isn't that great to begin with.
